Four $45,000 finals in the Excelsior Series will be featured on the 14-race card at Monticello Raceway on Monday afternoon, September 30.Those races are for the top point earners in the 2 year-old divisions that were contested at various raceways throughout the state during the summertime.
They will go as races one, four , eight and 11 on the Monday program.
Strangely, lawyer Ted Gewertz, alone or with partners , will start six youngsters in the Excelsior Series finals and will have at least one in each division.
Mymomsablizzard trotted to a track record equaling 1:57 mile winning Monticello Raceway’s Open Trot on Wednesday, (Sept. 25) for young Austin Siegelman. The 7-year-old mare tied the aged trotting mare’s standard which was set earlier this year on August 21 by Aren’t I Hanover and driver Billy ”Zeke” Parker, Jr.
Last week members of Monticello Casino and Raceway staff joined Thunder- 102FM in their annual County Cares fundraising radio thon if an effort to raise money for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital to help end childhood cancer.
Not only did management personnel help raise funds on air but at day’s end Monticello Casino and Raceway COO/CFO, Laurette Pitts, was on hand to make a $1000 donation from the casino and raceway to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Winning races is nothing new to Billy “Zeke” Parker, Jr. He’s won plenty—11044 at last count—and what helped him add to his totals was the five winners he drove yesterday (Sept 19) at Monticello Raceway.
Parker didn’t start his assault until the third race when he scored with Danby Racing Stables, Charismatic ($7.70) in 1:58.2. He came right back in the next race and won with Tom Stamper’s 3 year year old trotter, R J’s Striker ($12.20) in 2:01.1.
Seven races for quality New York-bred sophomore colt and gelding trotters will adorn Monticello Raceway’s Tuesday afternoon card of September 17. Over $158,000 is offered in two NYSS divisions and they’ll be accompanied by five $12,700 splits for Excelsior Series colt and gelding trotters.
The Zeke Parker countdown is over. On Thursday afternoon ( September 12) Parker won a pair of races at Monticello Raceway and in doing so he passed Walter Case, Jr. in career driving victories and became the sixth winningest driver in the sport.
Parker now has driven 11039 winners in his career one better than Case’s total.

The winner of the Munich Mile will earn the right to compete in the series finale, ‘the All-America Cup’ later this fall, which will feature the winning drivers of each of the ethnic legs presented during the season.
Social Scene and driver George Brennan blistered to a 1:52.2 track record performance in their division of the $155,000 NY Sires States at Monticello Raceway on Wednesday afternoon, September 11 and in doing so their time erased the former mark of 1:52.3 set last year on August 28 by Romantic Moment and Yannick Gingras.
