July 2015

On the beautiful summer afternoon of July 16 the ninth leg of the NAADA spring trotting series went to post at Monticello Raceway and when the judges hung the official sign Bob Hechkoff emerged victorious with Alternat Thursdays. They scored a two length triumph over Swift Blizzard and Paul Minore in a time of 2:00.3. Joe Lee finished third with Laser Lucy.

Sometimes when drivers are marching towards driving milestones, they tend to stall out and languish.  Not in the case of James Devaux, if anything, as he was getting closer, he got hotter.  On Wednesday afternoon July 8, Jimmy won his 3999 in race 5 with Prince of Pleasure, for trainer Gary Decker.  In the 7th race, the answer to the future trivia question of who was Jimmy driving for his 4000th win was answered, is was Bangbangkisskiss, barely.

The mountains were alive this weekend, as Monticello Raceway held its annual Fireworks display, much to the delight of the large crowd.  The 10 race card featured 5 New York Sire Stake events for 2 Year Old Trotting Fillies, each split raced for $21,800, 2 - Division A Excelsior’s ($15,000) and 1 - Excelsior’s B ($6,800).
